The X Factor opened it's doors over the weekend to 6 million viewers, the lowest since the program started in 2004. It was still the most watched Saturday night watched program but a long way from the 10.8 million in it's heyday. I suspect next Saturday BBC's Strictly will be win the war of the ratings.
Simon Cowell has openly suggested X Factor can not compete with Strictly as the audiences are very different. Strictly having an older audience and X Factor catering for the youngsters.
So this year Mr Cowell and the producers of the show have cancelled the sister show, Xtra Factor hosted by Rylan Clark and Matt Edmonson and are focusing on engaging it's young viewers via social media accounts and the X Factor YouTube channel.
Simon has also stated he doesn't want joke acts and it appears we won't be seeing any rubbish auditions from those after their 30 seconds of fame or the totally deluded. Instead the focus will be on serious acts. Shame they haven't cut the sob stories!
This year Simon Cowell has said he will be also looking for original songs to keep the show fresh and over the weekend we witnessed two examples of this. Not sure how this theory will work on Rock Week or Big Band Week!
Just one weekend in and the media are already hunting down negative gossip on contestants. 27 year old Kayleigh Taylor who amazed the judges with her beautiful rendition of My Immortal by Evanescence apparently appeared on Jeremy Kyle 3 years ago when she was accused of stealing her fathers mobile phone. She underwent a lie detector test and failed. Kayleigh told The Sun “I don’t pretend to be perfect. I’m human.
“I’ve made a number of mistakes in the past and I’m now trying to better my life.”
Also according to the media, Grace Davis has a manager, a recording deal and has performed with Olly Murs. Nothing could be further from the truth according to Grace. She claimed she doesn't have a manager and she self released an EP when she was 18.
As for performing with Olly Murs, she was asked to do a private gigg for a friend who happened to book Olly Murs as well. Olly called Grace to the stage and they sang together.
We all know by now the X Factor is fake, we know some artists are asked to audition after being scouted from busking or from social media. We all know people aren't perfect yet the media still want to bring folk down.
Perhaps Kayleigh did make a mistake and is trying to better her life and does it really matter if Grace has sung with Olly Murs. We've never heard of her and maybe the X Factor can take her to the next level. Bookies are already tipping Grace as their early winner of X Factor 2017.
