Yesterday Theresa May shocked the press, members of the opposition and the general public by announcing she is calling for a general election to be held on 8th June 2017.
In a televised speech she claimed she originally had no intention of doing so but certain circumstances had forced her hand.
The fact The House of Lords has stated they will block any decisions the conservative government make over BREXIT, Jeremy Corbyn's constant knocking of her and anything and her handling of BREXIT and being slated by SNP's Nicola Sturgeon have all been factors in her decision.
The Prime Minister expressed her desire for those with any kind of power, whether they be in The House of Lords or standing in The House of Commons to come together to make the exit from the European Union as painless as possible. Her concern is if the country is divided we won't get the best deal in the latter stages of the BREXIT negotiations giving Europe the upper hand.
The country voted for BREXIT on June 23rd 2016 but with a 52% majority the country has been divided. The fact remains the majority did ask to leave the European Union and PM Mrs May claims to want the procedure to be swift and problem free.
First Scottish Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has been ranting about a Scottish referendum to leave Britain despite giving the Scots a once in a lifetime chance to vote out in September 2014 resulting in a 'No' decision from 55.3% of the voters. Since the BREXIT vote Sturgeon has bleated on tirelessly about a second referendum stating the goal posts have changes. She believes the Scots should be allowed stay in Europe while leaving Britain.
Europe has said nothing would be decided on the Scottish until the BREXIT negotiations were finalised, a fact that doesn't appear to have penetrated with the First Scottish Minister.
Leader of the Labour party, Jeremy Corbyn is said to be the only real opposition to Theresa May yet many say he is no opposition at all. Many Labour politicians have left the party since his leadership started and there's been much party in fighting and bickering.
In a statement Mr Corbyn said “I welcome the Prime Minister’s decision to give the British people the chance to vote for a government that will put the interests of the majority first."
In the latest poll Labour is 21 points behind the Conservatives, a result that would see dozens of the party's MPs lose their seats. However, in recent times we have come to know that polls are always accurate, if they were the 'remainers' would have won the Brexit referendum and Trump would not be the President of the USA.
Bookies odds are currently giving odds of 1/7 for a Conservative majority, 5/1 for No majority, 25/1 for a Labour Majority and 100/1 for any other party majority.
