Radek Stepanek aims for a good end to the season

of the Czech Republic will be aiming to make a fine run at the end of the season and beat some of the world’s best players.

Last year the Czech player beat Andy Murray in the 2^nd round of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris in 3 tight sets 1-6 6-3 6-4.

Stepanek started this season in fine form having reached the final of the ATP event in Brisbane Australia where he lost to the former world number 1 Andy Roddick of the USA 7-6 7-6.

In 2008 Stepanek achieved the best win of his career when he beat the legendary Roger Federer 7-6 7-6 in the quarter finals of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome.

Federer recently lost to the world number 2 Novak DJokovic in the semi finals of the US Open in Flushing Meadows New York in 5 sets, Federer is a 5 time former champion at the Open.

 

 

Fernando Verdasco beaten in Bangkok

of Spain suffered a shock 1^st round loss in the ATP 250 event in Bangkok to the German Benjamin Becker.

Becker on his day has the game to cause big upsets; back in 2006 the German beat Andre Agassi in the last match of the legendary American’s career on Arthur Ashe stadium court in the 3^rd round of the US Open.

Verdasco needed a win to keep in safe in the hunt to reach the ATP World Tour finals at the O2 Arena in London.

Last year the Spaniard qualified for the event for the 1^st time in his career, the world tour finals is the one event that the world number 1 Rafael Nadal has yet to win.

2 weeks ago Nadal completed a career Grand Slam when he won the US Open for the 1^st time in his career with a 4 set win over Novak Djokovic.

 

 

 

Richard Gasquet looks to maintain good form

of France will be aiming to make a great run at the end of the season and perhaps beat some of the best players in the world.

Earlier this season the Frenchman managed to win the ATP title in Nice, France where he beat Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the final in 3 tight sets.

Gasquet went on to lose in the 1^st round of the French Open in Paris having led Andy Murray by 2 sets to love and been a break up in the 3^rd set.

This season the Frenchman also beat Nikolay Davydenko in the 2^nd round of the US Open in Flushing Meadows in New York in straight sets, but he lost in the 4^th round to his compatriot Gael Monfils.

World Number 1 Rafael Nadal won the US Open for the 1^st time in his career when he beat Novak Djokovic in the final in 4 sets.

 

 

Fernando Gonzalez aims to have a good end to the season

of Chile will be aiming to make a great run at the end of the season and perhaps beat some of the best players in the world.

Back in 2007 the Chilean reached the final of the Australian Open in Melbourne but lost in straight sets to the then world number 1 Roger Federer.

Gonzalez went on to get his only win over Roger Federe later that year at the ATP Masters Cup in Shanghai in the group stages.

The Chilean also reached the French Open semi finals in Paris last year but lost in 5 sets to the Swede Robin Soderling.

Rafael Nadal of Spain is now the world number 1 and this year he won a 5^th French Open title, 2^nd Wimbledon title, and 2 weeks ago he completed the career Grand Slam when he won a 1^st US Open title beating Novak Djokovic in the final in 4 sets.

 

 

Gael Monfils aims to hit back in Serbia

of France will be aiming to hit back in Serbia and help France win the Davis Cup final in Belgrade in December.

The Frenchman stunned the tennis world earlier this month when he reached the quarter finals of the US Open in Flushing Meadows New York however he was beaten in straight sets by the world number 2 Novak Djokovic of Serbia.

Djokovic went on to beat the world number 3 and 5 time champion Roger Federer in the Semi Finals in 5 sets 5-7 6-1 5-7 6-2 7-5, he then lost in 4 sets in the final to the world number 1 Rafael Nadal 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-2.

Djokovic also beat Monfils last year in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris in a final set tiebreaker.

The Serb has won 1 Grand Slam title to date that was the Australian Open in 2008.

 

Andy Roddick looks to shine in Asia

of the USA will be looking to shine towards the end of the season as the tour hits Asia, the former world number 1 was in great form as the start of the season as he won the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami for the 2^nd time in his career with a straight sets win in the final over the Czech player Tomas Berdych.

However since that performance Roddick has struggled with his own form somewhat, he made a shock 4^th round exit at Wimbledon where many thought he had a real shot at winning the title.

The American then lost in the 2^nd round of the US Open in Flushing Meadows New York to the talented Serbian number 2 Janko Tipsarevic.

World Number 1 Rafael Nadal went on to win the US Open for the 1^st time in his career when he beat Novak Djokovic in the final in 4 sets.

 

 

Robin Soderling aims to maintain great Paris form

of Sweden will be aiming to maintain his superb Paris form later this year at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris.

Last year the Swede caused a huge upset when he beat the world number 1 Rafael Nadal in the 4^th round of the French Open in 4 tight sets, he went on to reach the final where he lost in straight sets to Roger Federer.

Soderling backed up that performance this year by beating Federer in 4 sets in the Quarter final and going through to the final where he lost to Nadal in straight sets 6-4 6-2 6-4.

Last year Soderling competed in the ATP World Tour finals in London at the O2 Arena and he reached the semi finals where he lost to the former US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro in a final set tiebreak, he will hope to go deep in London once again this year.

 

 

Jo Wilifried Tsonga aims to build on great major form

The Frenchman caused a huge upset this year when he beat the world number 2 Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the Quarter Finals of the Australian Open in 5 sets he lost however in the Semi Finals to the eventual champion Roger Federer in straight sets.

Tsonga went on to reach the Wimbledon Quarter Final for the 1^st time in his career but he lost in 4 sets to the home favourite Andy Murray of Scotland.

In 2008 Tsonga caused a huge shock when he beat Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal on his way to the final of the Australian Open where he lost in 4 sets to Djokovic.

Nadal is now the world number 1 and 2 weeks ago he won a 1^st US Open title to complete the career Grand Slam.

 

 

Marin Cilic look to bounce back at the end of the season

of Croatia will be aiming to make a run at the end of the season in the Masters 1000 events and once again show the tennis world that he has a big future in the game.

At the start of the year Cilic beat the former US Open champions Andy Roddick and Juan Martin Del Potro, both in 5 sets to reach his 1^st Grand Slam Semi Final at the Australian Open in Melbourne, where he lost in 4 sets to Andy Murray.

Since then however Cilic’s form has been patchy and he recently lost in the 2^nd round of the US Open in New York.

At his best however Cilic can beat anyone in the world and he will look to make a great run at the ATP Masters 1000 events in Paris and Shanghai,, Nikolay Davydenko win the title in Shanghai last year when he beat Rafael Nadal in the final.

 

 

Nikolay Davydenko could drop out of the top 10

of Russia could drop out of the top 10 following a shock defeat in the 1^st round of the ATP 250 event in Malaysia. The Russian had won the title last year but this time around he was beaten in 3 sets by his compatriot Igor Andreev in 3 tight sets.

Davydenko must now successfully defend the ATP Masters 1000 title in Shanghai which he won last year when he beat the world number 1 Rafael Nadal in the final otherwise he will drop out of the world’s top 10

Last year Davydenko backed up winning in Shanghai by winning the ATP World tour finals at the O2 Arena In London, on his way to the title in London he beat, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro.

This year the Russian was many people’s tip to win the Australian Open but he lost in 4 sets to the eventual champion, Federer.

 

Andrew Murray aims to keep number 4 spot

In terms of Murray’s prospects of winning a major title in 2011 it is crucial that he keeps the number 4 ranking because if he was to be seeded number 5 then there is a chance that he could face the likes of Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer as early as the Quarter Finals in a major tournament.

Earlier this year Murray reached the Australian Open final in Melbourne for the 1^st time in his career but he lost in straight sets to the then world number 1 Roger Federer in straight sets 6-3 6-4 7-6.

Many felt Murray had a real shot at the US Open this summer but he suffered a shock 4 set loss to Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland.

 

 

Juan Martin Del Potro satisfied with comeback

of Argentina has said that he is satisfied with his comeback to the ATP tour despite losing in the 1^st round in the ATP 250 event in Bangkok Thailand.

The Argentine lost to Oliver Rochus of Belgium in what was his first match on tour since January, last year Del Potro stunned the tennis world as he won the US Open in Flushing Meadows New York beating Rafael Nadal in the Semi Final in straight sets and Roger Federer in the final in an epic 5 set contest 3-7 7-6 4-6 7-6 6-2.

This year he went on to reach the 4^th round of the Australian Open in Melbourne but lost in 4 sets to the up and coming Croat Marin Cilic, however it is in that match that he began to suffer from his wrist problems.

World Number 1 Rafael Nadal managed to win his 1^st US Open title 2 weeks ago.

 

 

 

Novak Djokovic aims to reign in Shanghai once again

of Serbia will be aiming to dominate the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai next month and perhaps beat some of the best players in the world.

2 years ago when the ATP Masters Cup was held in Shanghai the Serb managed to win the title beating the Russian Nikolay Davydenko.

However last year when there was a Masters 1000 played in Shanghai Davydenko won the title beating Djokovic along the way in 3 sets.

2 weeks ago however Djokovic showed the tennis world that he was back to somewhere near his best form as he beat the 5 time champion Roger Federer in 5 sets in the US Open in Flushing Meadows New York in the Semi Finals the score was 5-7 6-1 5-7 6-2 7-5.

The Serb however was beaten in a superb final in 4 sets by the world number 1 Rafael Nadal 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-2.

In June Nadal won a 5^th French Open title in Paris when he beat Robin Soderling of Sweden in the final in straight sets.

The Spaniard then went on to beat Tomas Berdych in the final of Wimbledon in straight sets it was his 2^nd Wimbledon title.

Nadal then completed the career Grand Slam 2 weeks ago when he beat Novak Djokovic in the final of the US Open in Flushing Meadows New York.

It was a exceptional match which Nadal won in 4 sets 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-2. Nadl has now won 9 major titles in his career.

Djokovic had beaten the former world number 1 Roger Federer in the Semi Finals in 5 sets 5-7 6-1 5-7 6-2 7-5.

 

Roger Federer aims to regain number 2 spot

of Switzerland will be aiming to regain the number 2 world ranking before the season is out so that he can have a great run at the ATP World Tour finals at the O2 Arena in November.

The Swiss maestro won the Australian Open in January in Melbourne for the 4^th time in his career when he beat Andy Murray in the final in straight sets 6-3 6-4 7-6.

Federer however suffered shock quarter final defeats in both the French Open and Wimbledon to Robin Soderling and Tomas Berdych.

Federer then lost an epic 5 set match in the Semi Final of the US Open to Novak Djokovic 5-7 6-1 5-7 6-2 7-5, that result saw Djokovic overtake Federer as the number 2 player in the world rankings.

Djokovic lost in the final in New York to the world number 1 Rafael Nadal in 4 sets 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-2.

 

Anastasia Pavluchenkova looks to maintain good form

of Russia will be looking to end the year in fine form just as she showed that she is capable of, the Russian reached the 4^th round of the French Open in Paris but lost in 3 tight sets to the world number 1 and former champion Serena Williams.

Serena then lost in 3 sets in the quarter finals to the Australian Samantha Stosur who went on to reach her maiden Grand Slam final.

Serena had already won her 5^th Australian Open title earlier in the year when she beat Justine Henin in the final in 3 tight sets.

The American also won a 4^th Wimbledon title this summer and she has teamed up with her older sister Venus to win both the Australian and French Open doubles titles and they are now ranked number 1 in the world in doubles.

Kim Clijsters of Belgium however won the US Open for the 3^rd time in her career.

 

 

Tathiana Garbin looks to go deep for rest of season

The Frenchwoman will feel that if she plays to her potential she can beat anyone on tour and she will need to find that form if she is to win a big tournament.

Kim Clijsters of Belgium recently won a 3^rd US Open title in Flushing Meadows New York in the final she beat the Russian Vera Zvonareva in straight sets.

Zvonareva had also reached the Wimbledon final where she lost in straight sets to Serena Williams the world number 1 of the USA.

Serena also won the Australian Open in Melbourne at the start of the year for the 5^th time in her career but was forced to pull out of the US Open due to a freak injury that she sustained in an restaurant.

 

 

Flavia Pennetta aims to end the year on a positive note

Serena went on to win a 4^th Wimbledon title this summer when she defeated the Russian Vera Zvonareva in the final in straight sets.

The American and her older sister Venus are now ranked number 1 in the world in doubles and this year they have won both the French Open and Australian open doubles titles.

Venus lost in the Semi finals of the US Open to eventual champion Kim Clijsters.

The American however had to pull out of the US Open in Flushing Meadows New York due to a freak injury.

Kim Clijsters of Belgium went on to win the title for the 3^rd time in her career. Serena last won the US Open in 2008 when she beat Jelena Jankovic in the final in straight sets Jankovic was the world number 1 that year.

Serena also won a 4^th Wimbledon titles this summer beating the up and coming Russian Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the final in straight sets.

 

 

Laura Robson looks to qualify in Australia

of Great Britain will be aiming to qualify for the Australian Open it would be her 1^st time reaching the main draw of a Grand Slam event on merit.

The young Australian recently reached the final round of qualifying for the US Open in Flushing Meadows New York but she lost in straight sets in the final round.

Earlier this year Robson and Andy Murray teamed up and took Great Britain to the final of the Hopman Cup in Perth where they lost 2-1 to Spain.

Murray lost his final singles match to the Spaniard Tommy Robredo in 3 sets 1-6 6-3 6-4, a few weeks later Murray went on to reach the Australian Open final in Melbourne where he lost in straight set to Roger Federer.

Robson was given a wildcard to Wimbledon this year but she lost in straight sets to former world number 1 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.

 

 

Alona Bondarenko looks to make a big impresison next season

Last year she won the Australian Open doubles title with her sister, this year another pair of sisters won that title, the world number 1 pair of the Williams sisters , Serena and Venus.

Serena is the world number 1 in singles as well and this year she won the Australian Open for the 5^th time in her career when she beat the former world number 1 Justin Henin of Belgium in 3 tight sets.

Serena went on to win a 4^th Wimbledon title this summer when she beat the Russian Vera Zvonareva in the final in straight sets.

The Russian also went on to reach the final of the US Open in New York but lost to Kim Clijsters of Belgium.

The Chinese number 2 pulled off a huge upset at the start of the year at the Australian Open in Melbourne as she reached the Semi Finals where she lost in straight sets to the former world number 1 Justin Henin of Belgium.

Henin then lost in the final in 3 sets to the world number 1 Serena Williams of the USA, it was a 5^th Australian Open title for Serena.

Serena and her older sister also won the Australian and French Open doubles titles this year and they are now ranked number 1 in the world in doubles.

The American went on to win a 4^th Wimbledon title this summer when she beat the Russian Vera Zvonareva in the final in straight sets.

 

 

Nadia Petrova looks to regain early season form

of Russia will be aiming to regain her early season form in 2011 and perhaps beat some of the world’s best players.

The Russian made a superb start to the year as she beat Kim Clijsters 6-1 6-0 in the Australian Open 4^th round in Melbourne.

Clijsters would later go on to win the US Open for the 3^rd time in her career this summer when she beat Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the final.

Petrova also earned an impressive win over Venus Williams in the French Open in Paris this summer. However Venus’s sister Serena is now the world number 1 and she has won both Wimbledon and the Australian Open this year.

Serena would have also been the favourite for the US Open this summer but she had to pull out after suffering from a freak injury in a restaurant  just before the US Open in New York.
