The Frenchman stunned the tennis world earlier this month when he reached the quarter finals of the US Open in Flushing Meadows New York however he was beaten in straight sets by the world number 2 Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
Djokovic went on to beat the world number 3 and 5 time champion Roger Federer in the Semi Finals in 5 sets 5-7 6-1 5-7 6-2 7-5, he then lost in 4 sets in the final to the world number 1 Rafael Nadal 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-2.
Djokovic also beat Monfils last year in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris in a final set tiebreaker.
The Serb has won 1 Grand Slam title to date that was the Australian Open in 2008.
