of the USA made a winning start to his US Open campaign in Flushing Meadows New York last night as he brushed aside the Frenchman Stephane Robert.
Roddick raced through the 1st set 6-3 and the next 2 sets proved to be even more one sided with Roddick winning them 6-2 6-2.
The American will now play Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia in the 2nd round and that promises to be a tricky test for the home favourite as the Serb managed to beat Roddick in 4 sets in the 2nd round of Wimbledon back in 2008.
Roddick won the US Open back in 2003 when he beat Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain in the final in straight sets he also reached the final in 2006 but was beaten in 4 sets by Roger Federer.
Last year Roddick lost in the 3rd round of the Open to his good friend and compatriot John Isner in a 5th set tiebreaker.
