of Cyprus has taken a heavy loss in the 1st round of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome.
The Cypriot was at his best in Indian Wells last month when he achieved his first ever victory against the World Number 1 Roger Federer.
Baghdtis would have come to Rome with high expectations of having a good run but he took a 1st round loss to Ernest Gulbis of Lativa.
Gulbis stormed through both sets 6-2 6-2 as he ran out a comfortable victor against Baghdtis.
4 years ago Baghdtis reached the final of the Australian Open but lost to Roger Federer in the final in 4 sets.
Many experts have tipped Baghdtis for greatness but he will hope that he can reach another Grand Slam final sooner rather than later.
Federer has never won the title in Rome but has twice reached the final he will hope to put that right this week.
