Gael Monfils of
France will be looking to make a big impression this week at the Masters 1000 in Rome this week.
Clay is the Frenchman’s favourite surface last year he reached the quarter finals at the French Open before losing to Roger Federer in 4 sets.
Federer went on to win the title for the 1st time in his career when he beat Robin Soderling in the final in straight sets.
In 2008 Monflis reached the Semi Finals in Paris but also fell short against Federer in the last 4.
Monfis is generally believed to have some of the best defence in the men’s game and this should serve him well on Clay.
However Rafael Nadal regarded by many as the best clay court player in the world of all time appears to be in fine form and it will be difficult for Monflis to go all the way and win the title this week.
