Spain won his 2nd title of the year yesterday at the ATP Event in
Barcelona with a hard fought 3 set victory against last year’s French Open
finalist Robin Soderling of Sweden.
Verdasco won the 1st set 6-3 but Soderling hit back to win the 2nd 6-4 to force the match into a 3rd and final set.
The Spaniard held his nerve to win the final set 6-3 to seal the title, 6-3 4-6 6-3.
It was the 2nd title of the year for Verdasco who also won in San Jose in February when he beat Andy Roddick in the final in 3 sets.
Verdasco also reached the final of the Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo last week but lost in straight sets to his compatriot the World Number 3 Rafael Nadal.
At his best Verdasco is capable of beating anyone in the world, and he will hope to have a good run at the French Open this year.
