World Number 1 Roger Federer cruised through to the US Open with a straight sets victory over the American Devin Britton.
Federer who has been in tremendous form in recent months winning the French Open and Wimbledon titles won 6-1 6-3 7-5.
Although Federer won in straight sets he was given a tough test by the American Britton went a break up in both the 2nd and 3rd sets but Federer stormed back on both occasions to seal victory.
Federer took the Tennis world by storm back in 2004, he won the US Open as well as the Australian Open and Wimbledon crowns and finished the year number 1 in the world for the 1st time in his career.
Given the way the Swiss Maestro has been playing in recent times there is every chance that he could win his 6th consecutive title at Flushing Meadows, should he accomplish that feat, he would be the 1st male player to do so in the Open era.
